Caribou, ME – A soaking rain is expected to move across Maine tonight as a strong cold front sweeps through the region, bringing a sharp drop in temperatures by midweek.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, widespread rainfall between three-quarters and one inch is expected through Wednesday morning. Northerly winds behind the front will usher in much cooler air, with daytime highs Wednesday ranging from the lower 50s in the north to low 60s along the coast.

By Thursday, temperatures will struggle to reach 50 degrees in many northern communities. The chill deepens Thursday night, when forecasters expect widespread frost reaching all the way to the coast — a reminder that the growing season is quickly ending across much of Maine.

Friday will remain cool, with highs in the 50s, before temperatures rebound toward 60 degrees heading into the weekend. Dry conditions are expected to return, offering a calmer close to the week after the midweek soaking.

Residents are advised to protect sensitive plants and outdoor equipment ahead of Thursday night’s frost and allow extra time for the morning commute Wednesday due to wet roads.
