Shreveport, Louisiana – Dry ground and increasing wildfire risk are forcing burn bans across parts of northwest Louisiana and the ArkLaTex, with restrictions already in place and more expected in the coming days.

According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, a prolonged dry pattern will continue through at least the end of the month, allowing fire danger to steadily increase across the region. Several parishes in northwest Louisiana and neighboring east Texas and southwest Arkansas are now under burn bans, with officials warning that conditions are favorable for rapid fire spread.

Communities including Caddo, Bossier, and Webster parishes are among those impacted, where outdoor burning is either strictly prohibited or heavily restricted. Dry vegetation combined with low humidity increases the likelihood that even small sparks—from equipment, vehicles, or discarded cigarettes—could ignite fast-moving fires.

State and local agencies, including forestry services, are urging residents to avoid any outdoor burning and to follow parish-specific restrictions. Parking vehicles on dry grass and using equipment that produces sparks should also be avoided.

The elevated fire threat is expected to persist through the weekend and likely into next week, with additional parishes potentially added to burn ban lists if dry conditions continue.
