Shreveport, Louisiana – A sharp blast of colder air is settling across the ArkLaTex, bringing the coldest temperatures so far this winter to much of north Louisiana, east Texas, and southern Arkansas as the weekend gets underway. Daytime temperatures will struggle to warm, and overnight lows are expected to dip well below freezing in many areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, highs Saturday are expected to range from the mid-40s to mid-50s across the region. Areas such as Texarkana, Hope, and El Dorado are likely to remain in the lower to mid-40s, while Shreveport, Natchitoches, and Monroe may reach the upper 40s to near 50 degrees. Farther south toward central Louisiana, highs could briefly climb into the lower to mid-50s.

The bigger concern arrives tonight as temperatures fall rapidly after sunset. Forecast lows range from the mid-teens across southern Arkansas to the upper teens and lower 20s across much of north Louisiana and east Texas. Shreveport, Texarkana, and Monroe are expected to bottom out near the lower 20s, with colder pockets possible in rural areas.

Residents are urged to protect pets, plants, and exposed pipes, and to use caution with space heaters and fireplaces. Cold conditions are expected to persist through the weekend, with additional cold nights likely before a gradual warming trend develops early next week.
