Shreveport, Louisiana – Unseasonably warm conditions are expected across the ArkLaTex today as a warm front lifts north, pushing temperatures well above early January averages.
According to the National Weather Service Shreveport, afternoon highs are forecast to climb into the 70s and near 80 degrees at several locations, putting daily record highs in jeopardy, especially across east Texas and north Louisiana.
Forecast highs include 79 degrees in Shreveport, 76 in Monroe, 80 in Lufkin, and upper 70s in parts of east Texas. Several of these values are within a few degrees of standing daily records, some of which were set as recently as 2023.
Forecasters say the warmth is being driven by a warm front moving north across the region. While clouds may increase at times, rainfall is expected to remain largely north and east of the area, limiting any cooling effects.
The National Weather Service notes that temperatures today will run well above normal for early January, when typical highs are usually in the upper 50s to lower 60s.
Despite the springlike feel, no severe weather is expected today. The primary impact is the unusual warmth, which may be noticeable for outdoor workers, students, and those spending extended time outside.
Residents are encouraged to stay weather-aware, as the pattern remains active heading into the weekend, with additional changes possible in the coming days.
