Shreveport, Louisiana – Triple-digit heat index values will grip the ArkLaTex and surrounding areas Wednesday, as a widespread Heat Advisory takes effect from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., threatening heat-related illnesses for outdoor workers, vulnerable residents, and anyone without air conditioning.

According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, “feels-like” temperatures are forecast to climb between 105 and 109 degrees across much of southern Arkansas, north Louisiana, and northeast Texas. The advisory covers cities from Shreveport to Monroe, Texarkana, and El Dorado, including portions of Mississippi’s Delta region through Tunica and Clarksdale.

Across Mississippi and Louisiana, emergency officials are urging residents to hydrate, avoid peak-hour activity outdoors, and check on elderly neighbors and pets. In Mississippi, the Department of Health advises scheduling frequent shaded breaks for outdoor workers and keeping cooling centers open where available.

Travelers through I-20, I-49, and US-165 corridors should ensure their vehicles are stocked with water in case of breakdowns. Schools resuming summer sessions may adjust recess and outdoor athletic schedules.

Relief from the oppressive heat isn’t expected until after sunset Wednesday, and additional advisories could be reissued later this week if temperatures remain elevated.
