Shreveport, Louisiana – A dangerous wave of heat will grip the ArkLaTex region Friday as heat index values soar as high as 109°F, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a heat advisory from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, the advisory spans portions of southwest Arkansas, north Louisiana, and east Texas—including cities like Shreveport, Monroe, El Dorado, and Longview. Heat index values between 105°F and 109°F will create hazardous conditions for outdoor workers, vulnerable populations, and anyone without access to air conditioning.

In Louisiana, Caddo, Ouachita, and Natchitoches parishes are under alert, while in Texas, counties like Nacogdoches, Harrison, and Gregg face similar risks. Arkansas communities including Texarkana, Hope, and Magnolia are also affected. Schools, summer camps, and outdoor events may need to adjust schedules or provide cooling stations.

Residents should drink water frequently, avoid strenuous activity in peak afternoon hours, and check on elderly neighbors. Cars can become deadly in minutes—never leave children or pets unattended.

The advisory expires Friday evening, but additional heat alerts could follow this weekend if high humidity lingers. Stay tuned to local updates and prepare for more extreme heat through early next week.
