Little Rock, AR – Strong winds and blowing dust are expected to impact much of central and eastern Arkansas through midnight tonight, prompting the National Weather Service to issue multiple advisories across the state.
According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, a Wind Advisory remains in effect for numerous counties—including Independence, White, Woodruff, Lonoke, Prairie, Monroe, Jefferson, Arkansas, Lincoln, Desha, and Drew—until midnight CDT Wednesday. The advisory warns of south winds between 20 and 30 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph anticipated.
In addition, a Blowing Dust Advisory is in place until 6 p.m. CDT today for Randolph, Lawrence, and Jackson counties, where visibility may drop to between one-half to one mile due to wind-driven dust. This may create hazardous driving conditions, particularly for high-profile vehicles.
Officials warn that the combination of strong winds and blowing dust can result in scattered power outages, fallen limbs, and dangerous travel, especially on rural roads and highways. Drivers are urged to use extra caution and to secure loose outdoor objects.
Persons with respiratory conditions are advised to remain indoors during peak dust activity. If caught in blowing dust while driving, authorities advise motorists to pull off the road, turn off headlights and brake lights, and keep feet off the brake pedal to avoid rear-end collisions.
Both advisories remain active until their stated expiration times unless extended or canceled by the National Weather Service.
