LITTLE ROCK, AR — After a calm Thanksgiving across Arkansas, a wetter and more unsettled pattern is taking shape heading into the weekend. The National Weather Service in Little Rock says two storm systems are expected between Friday night and Monday night, each bringing rain, isolated thunderstorms, and the potential for light winter weather early next week.
The first system arrives Friday night, spreading steady showers and occasional rumbles of thunder through early Sunday morning. Rain totals from this round could range from 0.5 to 1.5 inches, with higher amounts near Texarkana, De Queen, and Monticello. While flooding isn’t expected, minor ponding is possible in low-lying or poorly drained areas due to dormant vegetation.
A second system follows close behind on Monday, likely bringing another inch or more of rain statewide. Forecasters say a light wintry mix can’t be ruled out late Monday night, especially in northern Arkansas, though confidence in that scenario remains low. “Temperatures will be cold enough to flirt with a changeover, but it’s too early to pin down details,” meteorologists noted.
Winds will stay light through Saturday before turning northwest and cooler by Sunday. Highs will hover in the 40s to low 50s, with lows dipping into the 20s and 30s by Tuesday as colder air filters in.
