Little Rock, Ark. – Rain continues to soak Arkansas this week, with the heaviest amounts expected across the western half of the state where localized flooding is possible by midweek.

According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, scattered showers and thunderstorms will persist through Tuesday morning, bringing up to an inch of rain to northwest Arkansas, with lighter totals near Little Rock and central counties. A broader, more widespread system is expected Wednesday through Saturday, delivering one to three inches of additional rainfall statewide.

Western Arkansas, including Fort Smith, Fayetteville, and surrounding counties, could see totals climb past three inches. The NWS warns this overlap with early-week rainfall raises the risk of isolated flooding, especially where soils remain dry from recent drought conditions. Central and southeast Arkansas, while likely to see lesser amounts, are still projected to receive at least one inch of much-needed rain to help ease ongoing drought stress.

Travelers should use caution on rural roads prone to flooding and avoid low-lying areas. Emergency managers urge residents to monitor alerts as more advisories could be issued if rainfall rates intensify.

Rain chances are expected to remain elevated into the weekend, with improving conditions by early next week.
