Little Rock, AR – Severe thunderstorms are expected to sweep through Arkansas later this afternoon, potentially bringing damaging winds and heavy rain. Residents are urged to stay alert and take necessary precautions.

According to the US National Weather Service in Little Rock, the ridge of high pressure responsible for the recent heat wave will shift toward the Rockies, allowing a northwest flow aloft to drive showers and thunderstorms through the state. These storms could be severe, particularly in northern and central Arkansas, where the risk of isolated severe storms is highest.

On Wednesday, temperatures will remain high but not as extreme as recent days, with highs in the upper 80s to mid-90s. The forecast predicts a 60% to 80% chance of rain across the region, with the highest likelihood in areas such as Fayetteville, Russellville, and Fort Smith.

Looking ahead, the weather will continue to be warm with temperatures reaching the mid-90s on Thursday and climbing to the upper 90s by Saturday. While the chance of rain diminishes after Wednesday, Sunday could see another round of thunderstorms, particularly in the afternoon, with temperatures reaching the mid-90s.
