LITTLE ROCK, AR – A cold air mass has settled over Arkansas, bringing dangerously low wind chills and gusty winds through Monday. Northern Arkansas could see wind chills plunge into the negative single digits, with gusts reaching up to 30 mph. Residents are urged to limit outdoor exposure and bundle up to avoid frostbite.

According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, Sunday’s high temperatures will remain below freezing statewide, with Little Rock reaching just 33°F and northern areas struggling to surpass 20°F. Overnight lows are expected to fall between 10°F and 20°F across the state, with wind chill values making it feel even colder.

Gusty northwest winds will persist into Monday morning, creating hazardous conditions for travel. Motorists on I-40 and US-65 should be prepared for reduced visibility and slippery roads in some areas. The cold conditions are expected to continue through Tuesday, with slight improvement by midweek as highs climb into the 40s.

The National Weather Service advises wearing layers, limiting time outdoors, and checking on vulnerable neighbors or pets. Minor flurries are possible overnight Sunday in southern Arkansas, but significant precipitation is not expected.

Looking ahead, Tuesday will bring a high near 32°F in Little Rock, with clear skies returning by Wednesday as temperatures reach 40°F. Warmer conditions are anticipated by the end of the week.

Residents should monitor updates from the National Weather Service and prepare for freezing conditions over the next 48 hours.
