LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Scattered thunderstorms may develop across Arkansas Tuesday afternoon and evening, bringing quick downpours and lightning to parts of the state as temperatures climb into the upper 80s and mid-90s.

According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, the best chance for rain will be in central and southern counties, including Little Rock, Pine Bluff, and Hot Springs. Northern areas like Fayetteville and Harrison will also see storm potential, but coverage is expected to remain spotty.

High heat remains the bigger concern during the day, with Fayetteville reaching 89°, Little Rock 92°, and Jonesboro 95°. Humidity levels could push the heat index higher, creating added stress for outdoor workers and afternoon commuters.

Overnight, conditions will cool into the mid-60s to around 70°, offering some relief by Wednesday morning. Travelers are advised to watch for brief heavy rain and ponding on roads during the Tuesday evening drive. The weather service recommends limiting outdoor activity during peak afternoon heat and monitoring alerts for any stronger storms that may form.

Showers remain possible midweek, though lower rain chances are expected after Tuesday.
