LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – A widespread Freeze Warning remains in effect through 8 a.m. Sunday as subfreezing temperatures grip much of northern and western Arkansas, marking the first significant freeze of the fall season. Early morning lows have fallen into the upper 20s to near 30°F across the Ozark Mountains, Ouachita region, and parts of central Arkansas, including Hot Springs, Heber Springs, and Batesville.

According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, frost and freeze conditions will damage or kill sensitive plants and may cause minor issues for outdoor plumbing if left unprotected. Areas along Highway 65, I-40, and U.S. 71 are experiencing the coldest readings, with frost blanketing fields and valleys before sunrise.

Residents are urged to cover or bring in tender vegetation, disconnect hoses, and insulate exposed pipes to prevent damage. Livestock owners should ensure animals have access to shelter and unfrozen water.

Temperatures will rebound into the upper 50s and lower 60s this afternoon under sunny skies, with a gradual warming trend continuing through midweek. However, another cold front could bring a renewed chill by late week.
