LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Much of Arkansas is dealing with strong northwest winds as gusts up to 35 mph sweep across the state, prompting a Wind Advisory through 7 p.m. CDT. The National Weather Service in Little Rock said unsecured outdoor items could become airborne, and scattered power outages are possible in several counties.
According to the NWS, the advisory covers nearly all of central, eastern, northern, and western Arkansas, including Pulaski, Garland, Conway, and White counties. Winds are expected to remain between 20 and 25 mph, with higher gusts during the afternoon hours before easing this evening.
Drivers of trucks, vans, and other high-profile vehicles should use extra caution on east–west highways such as I-40 and U.S. 64, where crosswinds could make steering difficult. Tree limbs and loose debris may fall, particularly in wooded or rural areas, posing additional hazards.
Residents are urged to secure patio furniture, garbage bins, and other lightweight items before conditions worsen. The advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m., with calmer weather expected overnight as winds gradually subside statewide.
