Little Rock, Ark. – Severe thunderstorms with damaging wind and large hail are expected across southwest Arkansas Thursday, with heavy rainfall likely to impact much of the northern half of the state through Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, strong to severe storms may develop Thursday afternoon and evening, with wind gusts up to 80 mph and hail as large as quarters. A slight risk area includes Texarkana, Hot Springs, and El Dorado. The storms will also bring daily rain chances that could result in 6 to 8 inches of rainfall in cities like Fayetteville, Fort Smith, and Harrison by May 26.

The heaviest rain is forecast across northern Arkansas, including Russellville, Mountain View, and Jonesboro, which could see 4 to 6 inches. Central Arkansas, including Little Rock and Searcy, may receive 2 to 4 inches. Flash flooding, street closures, and isolated power outages are possible in flood-prone areas. Drivers are urged to avoid water-covered roads and stay weather-aware during commutes.

Residents should charge devices, secure outdoor items, and monitor updates from the National Weather Service. Thunderstorm threats continue into the weekend, and more advisories may be issued as conditions evolve.
