Little Rock, AR – Dawn breaks over central Arkansas with mild air and streaks of high cloud, but it’s the kind of quiet sky that rarely lasts. A developing storm system from the southern Plains is set to push east, turning this calm Friday into the setup for a wet, stormy weekend.

Highs reach the low 70s today under mostly cloudy skies, with light easterly winds. By Friday night, a few light showers could pop up, especially west of Little Rock, but the main rain event arrives Saturday morning.

The National Weather Service in Little Rock expects widespread showers and embedded thunderstorms through Saturday afternoon, with locally heavy rain at times. Most areas can expect one to two inches, though some pockets may pick up more. Gusty winds around 15 mph could accompany the strongest cells, and travelers on I-30, I-40, and Highway 67 should anticipate periods of reduced visibility and slick pavement.

Rain continues into Sunday, tapering slowly by evening as the system drifts east. Highs Sunday hover near 67°F before a drier, cooler pattern develops early next week. Monday looks quieter — partly cloudy with highs near 70°F — before another weak disturbance brings isolated showers by midweek.

To be fair, this isn’t winter’s first punch, but it’s a clear reminder that late October weather can shift fast. Many across Arkansas are already eyeing Halloween week — and early signs point to cooler, drier trick-or-treat weather by next Friday.
