LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Central Arkansas wakes up under a flood watch this Tuesday, with rivers and low crossings at risk through Wednesday afternoon. Drivers should stay alert on I-40 and surrounding roadways as heavy rainfall continues to cause localized flooding.

According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, widespread showers and thunderstorms will push across central and western Arkansas through Wednesday. Rain totals of 1 to 3 inches are expected, with some pockets possibly reaching 5 to 8 inches, making creeks and streams dangerous. Officials warn that low-water crossings could flood quickly.

The most persistent rainfall is targeting Pulaski, Faulkner, Conway, Perry, and surrounding counties. Residents in Little Rock, Benton, and Conway should prepare for slow commutes and possible road closures. Rural roads in Montgomery, Johnson, and Boone counties are especially vulnerable, with runoff threatening smaller bridges.

Showers taper by Thursday, bringing brighter skies and calmer weather. Temperatures will hold in the low 80s during the day, dipping into the 50s at night. The first week of fall will feel more seasonal by the weekend, with sunny skies and highs in the upper 70s to low 80s.

Residents should continue monitoring local alerts. Flood watches remain in effect until at least 1 p.m. Wednesday, and more warnings could be issued if rainfall increases.
