Little Rock, Arkansas – A brutal dome of heat continues to smother Arkansas, with heat index values surging between 110°F and 115°F across much of the state Thursday, prompting an Extreme Heat Warning through 9 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, the advisory covers over two dozen counties—from Conway and White to Desha and Monticello—where dangerously hot and humid conditions could lead to heat stroke or other serious illnesses with prolonged exposure.
Major metro areas like Little Rock, Pine Bluff, and Conway are all under the warning, with outdoor workers and vulnerable populations at the highest risk. OSHA recommends frequent shaded breaks, hydration, and limiting exertion during peak hours.
Vehicle interiors can become deadly in minutes—officials warn never to leave children or pets inside. Residents are urged to check on elderly neighbors and ensure access to air conditioning. Lightweight clothing and early morning errands are recommended to avoid the worst of the afternoon heat.
This is the most widespread heat alert in the state this summer. With little overnight relief and no significant cooldown in sight, officials say additional warnings could be issued into the weekend.
