Little Rock, Arkansas – Drivers across Arkansas could contend with powerful wind gusts and fast-moving thunderstorms beginning Thursday afternoon as an active weather pattern returns to the state, raising concerns for travel and outdoor safety.
According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, a marginal risk for severe weather covers all of Arkansas on Thursday, with the main threat coming from straight-line winds that could exceed 60 mph. Storms are expected to develop during the afternoon and continue into the evening hours. While tornado chances remain very low, officials say one cannot be completely ruled out.
Cities including Little Rock, Conway, Russellville, Pine Bluff, and Hot Springs could see brief but intense downpours and sudden wind gusts capable of downing tree limbs or causing isolated power outages. Drivers along Interstate 40, Interstate 30, and Highway 67 should be prepared for rapidly changing conditions.
Storm chances increase Friday, especially across eastern and southeastern Arkansas, where a slight risk for severe weather is in place. Areas near Jonesboro, West Memphis, and El Dorado could see stronger storms by afternoon and evening, with damaging winds, large hail, and an isolated tornado possible.
Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items, charge mobile devices, and monitor weather alerts closely. Additional advisories may be issued as the storm system approaches, with the highest impacts expected later Friday.
