Little Rock, AR – A late-season cold snap is expected to bring widespread frost to much of northern and central Arkansas early Monday morning, posing a threat to sensitive vegetation.
According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, a Frost Advisory is in effect from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. CDT Monday. The advisory covers a large area stretching from the Ozark Mountains down through the Arkansas River Valley. Counties included are Marion, Baxter, Fulton, Sharp, Stone, Izard, Boone, Newton, Searcy, Pope, Van Buren, Logan, Scott, Yell, Polk, and Johnson, among others.
Temperatures are expected to fall into the lower to mid-30s, with clear skies and light winds creating ideal conditions for frost to form. This could damage or kill sensitive outdoor plants if left unprotected.
Residents in impacted areas, including cities like Mountain Home, Harrison, Clarksville, Russellville, and Mena, are advised to cover or bring in plants overnight. Gardeners and agricultural workers should take precautions to prevent crop damage.
This type of frost event, while not unusual in early April, can still cause setbacks for spring planting. The advisory ends at 9 a.m. Monday, when temperatures are expected to rebound.
