LITTLE ROCK, AR — Car hoods glisten with thin ice this morning as a freezing rain and sleet mix spreads across much of central Arkansas. The National Weather Service in Little Rock has a Winter Weather Advisory in effect until 6 a.m. Tuesday, warning that even minor icing could cause slippery bridges and elevated roads through the day.

Temperatures sit near 31°F, cold enough to let moisture freeze on contact. The mixed precipitation — a blend of light sleet, freezing drizzle, and cold rain — will last through the morning hours before tapering late afternoon. Though total ice amounts should stay under a tenth of an inch, road impacts could be significant where surface temperatures remain below freezing.

Drivers across Pulaski, Faulkner, and Saline Counties should reduce speed, leave extra space, and avoid sudden braking. Hazardous spots will be most common on I-30, I-40, and I-430, especially during the late-morning commute.

Conditions improve by Tuesday as sunshine returns and temperatures climb into the 40s. The rest of the week stays calm, though another cold front Thursday night could spark a few showers and a light chill into Friday morning.

5-Day Outlook (Little Rock, AR):

  • Monday: Freezing rain early, high 34°F.
  • Tonight: Wintry mix ending, low 25°F.
  • Tuesday: Sunny, high 42°F.
  • Wednesday: Mostly sunny, high 50°F, low 34°F.
