Little Rock, AR – A wide-reaching Flood Watch will take effect late Wednesday night, impacting more than 50 counties across Arkansas through Sunday morning, with the National Weather Service warning of potentially dangerous rainfall totals and widespread flooding.
According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, the watch begins at 1 a.m. Thursday and extends until 7 a.m. Sunday. Forecast models indicate heavy rainfall totals between 6 to 10 inches, with isolated areas seeing even higher amounts. The greatest risk zone includes the I-30 and I-57 corridors, stretching from Arkadelphia through Little Rock to Newport.
Recent dry conditions across the region could intensify runoff effects, raising the likelihood of rapid flooding in low-lying areas, creeks, rivers, and urban streets. Counties included in the alert span north central, central, southeast, and southwest Arkansas, including Pulaski, Faulkner, Garland, Baxter, and Jefferson.
Residents are urged to monitor local weather alerts, prepare for potential road closures, and avoid driving through flooded areas. Flash flooding may develop quickly, particularly during overnight hours when visibility is limited.
Preparedness efforts should include checking drainage systems, securing outdoor items, and reviewing emergency plans in flood-prone communities. Updates will be provided as conditions evolve.
