LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – A stretch of warm, sunny weather across central Arkansas will take a sharp turn Saturday as a cold front brings the area’s best rain chances in nearly two weeks. Residents are urged to plan around changing conditions, especially for outdoor fall events and travel along I-30 and I-40.

According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, highs will reach the upper 80s Friday before showers and a few thunderstorms develop late Saturday afternoon. The most active period looks to arrive Saturday night, when downpours and gusty winds could briefly slow traffic and affect evening events.

While severe weather isn’t expected, brief heavy rain and lightning could interrupt football games, outdoor weddings, and fall festivals. Motorists are advised to reduce speed on slick roads and watch for ponding in low-lying spots. Showers will clear by sunrise Sunday as cooler, drier air sweeps in behind the front.

Sunday promises sunshine and a refreshing change, with highs near 73 and breezy north winds. That cooler trend will stick around into early next week, making for ideal weather for pumpkin patches, fall yardwork, and Halloween decorating.

Meteorologists say another weak system could bring a few light showers by midweek, but no major cold snaps are expected just yet. Still, this weekend marks Arkansas’ turn toward true fall weather.
