Little Rock, Arkansas – Strong winds sweeping across Arkansas Sunday will be followed by a sharp overnight temperature drop that could bring a damaging hard freeze across much of the state by early Monday.
According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, a Wind Advisory is in effect from 7 a.m. Sunday until 7 a.m. Monday statewide. Winds will range between 15 and 30 mph with gusts reaching 50 mph, strong enough to blow around loose outdoor objects, snap tree limbs, and cause isolated power outages.
Cities including Little Rock, Conway, Russellville, Hot Springs, Pine Bluff, Searcy, Batesville, and Monticello could see the strongest gusts Sunday afternoon and evening. Drivers along major routes such as Interstate 40, Interstate 30, and Interstate 530 should expect crosswinds, especially on bridges and open stretches of highway.
Colder air will surge into the state overnight, triggering a Freeze Warning from 1 a.m. to 10 a.m. Monday. Temperatures could plunge to around 11°F in some areas, cold enough to kill sensitive vegetation and potentially damage exposed pipes.
Residents are urged to secure outdoor items Sunday and protect plants, pets, and plumbing before the sharp temperature drop arrives overnight.
