Little Rock, AR – A cold front is sweeping through Arkansas today, ushering in strong northwest winds and noticeably cooler temperatures across the state, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Little Rock.

Behind the front, gusty winds of 25 to 35 mph are expected across much of northern and central Arkansas, including Little Rock, Russellville, and Jonesboro. The NWS warns that driving conditions may become difficult, particularly for high-profile vehicles on east-west routes such as Interstate 40 and Highway 67.

Temperatures will remain seasonably cool, with highs ranging from the upper 40s in the Ozarks to the low 60s in southern Arkansas. The brisk northwest winds will create a chill through the afternoon, making it feel cooler than the thermometer indicates.

“Winds will be strongest during the morning and early afternoon hours before gradually easing tonight,” forecasters said. “Motorists and those working outdoors should use caution.”

While no precipitation is expected, blowing dust or light debris could briefly reduce visibility in open areas. The cold front marks a pattern shift, with cooler, calmer weather expected late week before temperatures moderate slightly this weekend.

Residents are encouraged to secure outdoor decorations, trash bins, and lightweight items that could be blown around by the wind.

The NWS Little Rock continues to monitor post-frontal conditions and urges residents to stay updated on changing weather impacts at weather.gov/lzk.
