Fulton, AR – Three people were killed and several more injured in a series of early morning crashes along Interstate 30 westbound in Hempstead County, prompting an ongoing investigation by Arkansas State Police.
According to Arkansas State Police, the first incident occurred at approximately 1 a.m. Monday near the 18-mile marker. Investigators say Jonathan Gary Williams, 44, of Sherwood, an Arkansas Department of Transportation contractor, was struck and killed while applying reflectors to the roadway. Authorities allege a 2004 Buick Century hit Williams, and the driver fled the scene on foot. Law enforcement is actively searching for the suspect and urges anyone with information to come forward.
Shortly after, around 2:15 a.m., Troopers responded to a second collision near the 19-mile marker. According to ASP, that two-vehicle crash resulted in minor injuries, with drivers treated at the scene.
A third major crash unfolded near the 20-mile marker and involved three tractor-trailers and a pickup truck. ASP reports Jonathan Garcia, 25, and Javier Rivera, 61, both of Hope, were killed. The pickup’s driver and another passenger suffered serious injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals.
The westbound lanes of I-30 between Hope and Fulton were closed for several hours while crews worked the scenes. One lane reopened at about 9 a.m., and all lanes were reported open by noon Monday.
Authorities continue to urge extreme caution for drivers in work zones and request that anyone with information about these wrecks contact Arkansas State Police.
