Memphis, TN – Isolated severe storms could sweep across the Mid-South late Thursday night, bringing damaging winds and large hail to parts of Tennessee, Arkansas, and northern Mississippi.
According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, the threat window begins around 10 p.m. Thursday and continues through 6 a.m. Friday. Areas under a Level 1 (Marginal) risk include Memphis, Little Rock, Jonesboro, and extending northeast toward Union City. Storms will move from southwest to northeast, potentially disrupting overnight travel and early morning plans.
Primary hazards include wind gusts over 60 mph and hail the size of quarters. While the tornado risk remains low, it cannot be ruled out, especially in regions just north of the Mississippi border. Flash flooding may occur in areas with repeated storms or poor drainage.
Drivers should avoid overnight travel if possible and secure outdoor items that could be blown around. Residents are urged to enable weather alerts and keep phones charged in case of power outages.
This is the first of two storm systems expected this week, with a more widespread threat forecast for Friday night. Updates and new warnings may be issued as conditions develop.
