Fayetteville, AR – Strong to severe thunderstorms are possible across northwest Arkansas this afternoon, with the greatest threat coming from damaging winds, forecasters said Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, storms are expected to develop between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Monday, September 15, with wind gusts potentially reaching 60 miles per hour. Heavy downpours and frequent lightning are also likely, and hail up to the size of quarters is possible in some areas.

Meteorologists noted that the tornado risk remains low, but residents should still remain alert. The primary concern is straight-line wind damage, which can affect trees, power lines, and travel safety. The storm system will primarily impact areas near Fayetteville, Bentonville, Springdale, and surrounding communities in northwest Arkansas.

The weather service is urging residents to monitor forecasts, have multiple ways to receive warnings, and prepare a severe weather safety plan. Outdoor activities may be disrupted, and drivers should use caution during heavy rainfall and gusty winds.

As of Monday morning, no watches or warnings had been issued, but conditions may change quickly this afternoon.
