According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Shreveport, wind chill values could drop as low as 10°F this morning, with temperatures plunging to 12°F overnight. The cold weather advisory currently in effect will end by 9 a.m. today, but the freeze warning begins immediately afterward.
The advisory impacts south-central and southwest Arkansas, north-central and northwest Louisiana, southeast Oklahoma, and portions of east and northeast Texas. Officials warn frost and freeze conditions could damage crops, vegetation, and exposed outdoor plumbing.
Residents are urged to take precautions, including wrapping exposed pipes, checking on vulnerable neighbors, and keeping pets indoors. Proper use of heaters and generators is critical to avoid safety risks.
