Memphis, TN – The National Weather Service in Memphis is warning of a dual threat of severe storms and flash flooding Saturday, October 18, 2025, as a cold front sweeps through the Mid-South.
According to the National Weather Service, thunderstorms are expected to develop late Saturday afternoon and evening, bringing the potential for damaging winds, heavy rain, and isolated large hail—mainly along and west of the Mississippi River. A brief tornado can’t be ruled out, especially across northeast Arkansas.
The Storm Prediction Center has placed much of eastern Arkansas and western Tennessee under a Level 2 (Slight) Risk for severe weather, meaning scattered storms could reach severe limits. Storms will move west to east, with the greatest impacts expected between 4 p.m. and midnight.
By late Saturday night, the severe threat transitions to a flash flood concern, with a Level 2 (Slight) Risk for excessive rainfall covering areas from West Helena, AR, through Memphis and Savannah, TN. The heaviest rain may trigger localized flooding of urban areas, small creeks, and low-lying roads.
Conditions will improve by Sunday as cooler, drier air settles across the region. Residents are urged to monitor local alerts, avoid floodwaters, and have multiple ways to receive warnings.
