MEMPHIS, Tenn. – After weeks of sweltering conditions, Memphis and much of the Mid-South will get a noticeable break from the heat early next week. Highs will stay in the upper 80s to low 90s through Sunday, but a sharp cooldown is on the way starting Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, near-normal late-August temperatures will continue through the weekend before dipping into the 70s by midweek. Humidity levels are also expected to fall, bringing a more comfortable, almost “fall-like” feel to the region.

The shift will be most noticeable in Memphis, Oxford, and Tupelo, where daytime highs will hover near 90 through Saturday before dropping into the 70s by Tuesday afternoon. Overnight lows will fall into the 60s, making mornings cooler for commuters and outdoor plans.

Drivers and outdoor workers should still take precautions this weekend, as the heat index could briefly push above 90 during peak afternoon hours. By Monday, however, many in western Tennessee and northern Mississippi may finally get a chance to turn off the air conditioning and enjoy drier air.

Temperatures are expected to remain below 85 degrees through much of next week, with another round of warming possible by late Thursday.
