MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Steady rain and isolated thunderstorms are expected to soak the Mid-South through Tuesday, with some areas north of I-40 at risk for flash flooding as totals climb past 3 inches. Roads could become slick and quickly covered by ponding water overnight, especially in low-lying and urban zones.
According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, most of the region will see 1 to 2 inches of rain, but heavier bands could push totals toward 4 inches in parts of northeast Arkansas, the Missouri Bootheel, and northwest Tennessee. A “Slight Risk” for excessive rainfall remains in effect from 7 p.m. Monday through 7 a.m. Tuesday, meaning scattered flash floods are possible.
Motorists are urged to avoid flooded roadways and allow extra time for the Tuesday morning commute. Rapid rises along small creeks and streams could occur overnight. The Weather Service reminds residents: “Turn around, don’t drown.”
Rain chances will taper off Tuesday night, but additional showers may return midweek. Another update is expected Tuesday morning as forecasters monitor any new flood advisories.
