Little Rock, AR – Much cooler air is settling into Arkansas this week, bringing widespread lows in the 50s and 60s and keeping daytime highs below normal for late August.

According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, Tuesdayโ€™s highs will stay mostly in the 70s across central and southern Arkansas, with slightly warmer readings in the low 80s for portions of north and northeast Arkansas, including Harrison, Jonesboro and Hardy. Overnight lows into Wednesday morning are forecast to dip into the mid-50s in much of northern and eastern Arkansas, with Harrison, Mountain View and Hardy expected to bottom out near 54 degrees. Central Arkansas, including Little Rock, should see lows around 58 to 60 degrees.

Forecasters said rain from the beginning of the week played a role in keeping temperatures down, with showers and thunderstorms likely through Tuesday before skies clear midweek. A return of rain is possible late Thursday into Friday, bringing additional scattered showers and storms ahead of the holiday weekend.

The trend of milder weather is expected to hold through Labor Day. Forecast highs will remain in the upper 70s to low 80s, with nighttime lows consistently falling into the 50s and low 60s. The National Weather Service noted this cooler pattern is unusual for late August in Arkansas, when average highs typically run in the upper 80s to near 90 degrees.

Meanwhile, in Wisconsin, the National Weather Service in Green Bay reported patchy frost early Tuesday morning across north-central parts of the state before temperatures rebounded into the upper 60s and low 70s under mostly sunny skies.

Forecasters say both regions should expect cooler-than-normal weather to continue into the first days of September.
