Little Rock, Arkansas – Relentless heat will grip central Arkansas on Saturday as heat index values soar to 105° and storms threaten afternoon plans.
According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, a summer weather alert remains in effect through 9 p.m. Friday, June 27, with a second round of dangerous heat expected Saturday, June 28. The heat index will climb past 100° by midday, with values topping 105° from Little Rock to Batesville and across the I-30 and I-40 corridors. Scattered afternoon thunderstorms may bring gusty winds and heavy rain.
Saturday will start partly sunny, but isolated storms could develop by 1 p.m., especially across Pulaski, Faulkner, and Saline counties. Southwest winds around 5 mph will offer little relief. High temperatures in the upper 90s and stifling humidity create a real risk of heat-related illnesses.
Drink plenty of water, limit outdoor activity, and check on older neighbors. Anyone working outside should take frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas. Heat stroke is a medical emergency — call 911 if symptoms appear.
Showers and storms remain in the forecast through midweek, possibly limiting heat index values to below 105°. Still, isolated flash flooding is possible Sunday into Monday if storms stall.
