Little Rock, Arkansas – Dangerous heat and scattered storms return to Central Arkansas this weekend, setting up a high-impact stretch beginning Saturday, July 12.

According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms will develop after 1 p.m. Saturday, with heat index values soaring to 102°. While widespread severe weather isn’t expected, a few storms could become strong to severe, bringing gusts up to 15 mph and localized downpours, especially along major roadways like Interstate 30.

By Sunday, storm chances increase to 50 percent after 1 p.m., with highs near 94°F and muggy conditions making outdoor activities risky. Damaging wind gusts remain the primary severe threat this weekend, especially during afternoon and early evening hours. Residents are urged to limit outdoor exposure, stay hydrated, and secure loose outdoor items.

Looking ahead, Monday through Tuesday keeps up the stormy pattern. Scattered thunderstorms (40% chance) are likely again on Monday afternoon with a high near 95°F. Tuesday will be slightly drier with just a 20 percent storm chance and highs returning to 96°F.

By Wednesday, temperatures are expected to peak at 99°F under sunny skies before another rain chance returns Thursday. The intense heat combined with afternoon storms marks a classic Arkansas mid-July pattern — residents should monitor forecasts, avoid non-essential travel during storms, and check on vulnerable neighbors.

⚠️ Stay alert: Thunderstorm activity and triple-digit heat indices are expected daily through at least Thursday, July 17.
