Little Rock, Arkansas – Arkansans should brace for sweltering summer heat Friday with heat index values peaking above 103° along I-30 near Little Rock. By Sunday, the heat gives way to a growing risk of afternoon thunderstorms, raising concerns for travelers, outdoor workers, and anyone spending extended time outside.

According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, temperatures on Friday, July 11, will climb to 96°F, with sunny skies giving way to a slight chance of thunderstorms after 1 p.m. The risk of storms remains isolated through Saturday, but ramps up Sunday with a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms beginning in the afternoon.

Southwest winds will remain light through the weekend, but the humidity will intensify. Highs will hover in the mid-90s through Tuesday, with Saturday hitting a peak of 97°F. Overnight lows stay mild in the mid-70s.

Storm chances increase again early next week — 40% Monday and 30% Tuesday — with both days remaining hot and partly sunny. The greatest risk for storm activity continues to fall in the afternoon and early evening hours.

Residents should stay hydrated, limit outdoor exposure during peak heat, and monitor for any updated advisories from the NWS, especially as storm probabilities increase. Spotter activation is not expected at this time, but conditions could evolve.

Extended storms and heat continue through Tuesday. More updates are expected as the weekend progresses.
