Little Rock, Ark. – Scorching heat will slam Arkansas again Sunday, July 20, with Little Rock heading toward a 98° high and “feels-like” temps near 107°. The dangerous combination of heat and humidity prompted an Extreme Heat Warning from the National Weather Service, in effect until 8 p.m. CDT Sunday. Outdoor workers, children, and the elderly are especially at risk.
According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, heat index values will exceed 105° throughout central Arkansas, including Pulaski, Saline, and Lonoke counties. Southwest winds near 10 mph will offer little relief. Officials urge residents to limit time outside, drink water frequently, and avoid mid-afternoon errands or exercise.
Sunday kicks off a brutal stretch of triple-digit heat across the region. Temperatures in Little Rock will reach 99° on Monday and climb to 101° by Tuesday and Wednesday. Skies will remain clear, with no rain expected through at least Thursday. Nights will offer little reprieve, with lows stuck in the upper 70s.
Travelers along I-30 and I-40 should be cautious of heat exhaustion signs while driving or making extended stops. Be sure your vehicle’s air conditioning is working and keep extra water on hand.
This stretch marks one of the hottest weeks of the summer so far. Power companies recommend minimizing energy use in the late afternoon to ease strain on the grid.
Extreme heat continues through midweek. Another advisory may be issued if temperatures or humidity levels worsen.
