Little Rock, Ark. – Scattered storms, high heat, and damaging winds return to Arkansas Sunday as the state enters a volatile stretch of summer weather.

According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, thunderstorms are likely Sunday after 1 p.m., especially along the I-30 corridor. Temperatures will rise into the mid-90s with heat index values as high as 98°, creating dangerous outdoor conditions. South winds may gust up to 15 mph, and some storms could bring locally damaging wind gusts and brief downpours. Residents should avoid prolonged outdoor activity and secure loose outdoor items.

Storm chances continue through Sunday night, followed by another round Monday afternoon, with a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m. Monday’s high will climb to 97°, making it one of the hottest days this month in Pulaski County. Tuesday will bring more sunshine, but the heat continues with highs near 97° and a slight chance of afternoon storms.

The second half of the week stays hot and active. Wednesday’s high nears 99° with a 20% chance of storms, and Thursday follows with more sun, highs near 98°, and a return to scattered showers by Friday.
