Little Rock, Ark. – Severe storms are racing across northeast Arkansas early Friday, bringing 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail to communities from Batesville to Pocahontas.
According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, a severe thunderstorm warning remains in effect until 4:45 a.m. for Independence, Randolph, Jackson, Lawrence, and Sharp counties. Radar indicated two fast-moving storm cells near Newark and Pocahontas traveling northeast at 60 mph.
Residents in towns including Black Rock, Tuckerman, and Strawberry should prepare for potential hail damage to vehicles and wind damage to roofs, trees, and power lines. Emergency officials urge people to shelter in interior rooms on the lowest floor, away from windows.
High-impact areas include College City, Lake Charles State Park, and communities along Highway 67. Downed branches and brief power outages are possible as the system tracks toward Missouri.
