LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Arkansas residents should brace for strong storms late Thursday into Friday, with quarter-sized hail and wind gusts up to 60 mph possible across parts of the state. The National Weather Service in Little Rock warns that scattered storms could turn severe, particularly in western and southern Arkansas.
According to forecasters, the heaviest rain is expected from Thursday morning through Friday, with widespread totals of 2 to 3 inches and localized amounts up to 4 inches near Harrison. While soils remain dry from recent weeks, forecasters caution that flash flooding could still occur in low-lying areas and along creeks.
Cities including Fort Smith, Texarkana, Mena, and El Dorado face the greatest chance of severe storms Thursday afternoon into the evening. Quarter-sized hail may damage vehicles and roofs, while 60 mph wind gusts could down trees and power lines. Travel could become hazardous as heavy downpours reduce visibility.
Officials urge residents to secure outdoor items, avoid driving through flooded roadways, and have multiple ways to receive weather warnings. The severe threat tapers late Friday, with improving conditions expected by Saturday.
