Little Rock, AR – Severe weather threatens southwest and central Arkansas Thursday night, bringing the risk of large hail and isolated tornadoes. The National Weather Service (NWS) warns of dangerous travel conditions due to heavy rain and patchy fog through the night.
According to the NWS, thunderstorms are expected to intensify Thursday evening, primarily impacting areas near Arkadelphia, Texarkana, and El Dorado. Hail up to the size of quarters and wind gusts exceeding 60 mph are possible, creating hazards for drivers. Motorists on I-30 and Highway 67 are urged to use caution.
A slight risk (level 2 of 5) for severe weather has been issued, covering most of southwestern Arkansas. Overnight rainfall could total up to 2 inches, increasing the potential for localized flooding. Fog advisories remain in effect through 9 a.m. Friday, reducing visibility to one mile or less in some areas.
Friday’s forecast brings cloudy skies with lingering patchy fog before noon. Afternoon temperatures may reach 64°F, but wet roads and limited visibility could continue to disrupt travel plans. Rain chances decrease into Saturday, with mostly sunny skies and a high of 63°F expected by Sunday, providing a break from the week’s turbulent conditions.
Residents are encouraged to monitor local forecasts and prepare for rapidly changing weather. Those in mobile homes or high-risk areas should have an emergency plan in place.
