Little Rock, Ark. – Parts of Arkansas could be pounded by hail as large as softballs and winds topping 80 mph Friday, as a volatile weather system threatens the central and northeastern regions through tonight.

According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, the highest risk zone includes Batesville, Mountain Home, Jonesboro, and West Memphis. Storms will intensify this afternoon, with the greatest severe threat expected between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m. Hail up to 4 inches in diameter, wind gusts exceeding 80 mph, and a medium tornado risk have all been flagged.

Conway, Little Rock, and Searcy are also under an enhanced risk zone, with strong thunderstorms expected to impact evening travel and outdoor plans. Residents are urged to move vehicles into covered areas, secure loose items, and charge phones in case of power outages. Flash flooding is also possible in low-lying areas.

Today’s threat level rivals some of the most intense May outbreaks in recent years. Schools and local agencies in high-risk zones may shift to shelter-in-place procedures as storms approach.

Severe weather warnings remain active through late Friday night. Additional alerts could be issued as storms develop. Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio or local media for updates.
