Little Rock, AR – Forecasters are warning that Arkansas could see strong storms bringing quarter-sized hail, damaging winds, and heavy rainfall through Wednesday night.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Little Rock, central and northern Arkansas face the greatest risk of severe weather on Tuesday, September 23. Storms could produce hail up to one inch in diameter, winds of up to 60 miles per hour, and frequent lightning.
The NWS noted that rainfall totals may reach 2 to 4 inches in many areas, with up to 6 inches possible in localized spots near Fort Smith. Saturated ground could increase the risk of flash flooding, particularly in northern and central counties.
Storm chances begin increasing Monday, with stronger activity expected Tuesday into Wednesday. While tornado potential remains very low, forecasters caution that damaging hail and wind will be the main threats.
Residents across Little Rock, Conway, Jonesboro, and Fayetteville are urged to secure outdoor property, monitor weather alerts, and use caution on roadways during heavy rain. Morning and evening commutes may be impacted by storms and water-covered roads.
The unsettled weather is forecast to move out by late Wednesday night, bringing calmer conditions later in the week.
