Little Rock, Ark. – A fast-moving squall line is sweeping across central Arkansas this morning, bringing 70 mph wind gusts and the threat of one-inch hail through 11 a.m. Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for west-central, central, and eastern Arkansas. The primary concern is damaging straight-line winds as the bowing line of storms pushes east-southeast across the region.
Communities along and within 45 miles of a line from 65 miles west of Russellville to 50 miles east of Pine Bluff are most at risk. Cities such as Conway, Little Rock, and Stuttgart could experience sudden power outages, downed limbs, and dangerous travel conditions during morning hours.
Drivers are urged to delay travel if possible and avoid parking near trees or power lines. Residents should secure outdoor items and stay weather-aware as these storms move rapidly. Local emergency agencies recommend charging devices now and having multiple ways to receive warnings.
The severe weather threat will taper by late morning, but more storms could develop later today. Stay tuned for updated watches or warnings as conditions evolve.
