Jonesboro, Ark. – A fast-moving severe thunderstorm is slamming parts of northeastern Arkansas early Friday, with 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail threatening Clay County until 4:45 a.m.
According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, the storm was located near Pocahontas at 3:58 a.m. CDT, traveling northeast at 50 mph. Radar indicated the potential for damaging winds and hail that could impact vehicles, roofs, siding, and trees.
Communities under threat include Corning, Knobel, McDougal, and the Chalk Bluff Natural Area. Drivers on rural highways near Datto and Peach Orchard should remain alert for falling limbs and reduced visibility. Residents in affected areas are urged to shelter in an interior room on the lowest floor.
Power outages are possible due to falling branches and downed lines. Those in mobile homes or temporary shelters should relocate to sturdier structures if conditions allow.
This warning is part of a broader pattern of severe storms affecting the Mid-South region overnight. Additional watches or warnings may be issued as storms continue to track eastward.
