Arkansas Plane Crash Kills Tennessee Pilot Traveling From Austin to Chattanooga

Bradley, AR – A Tennessee man was killed after a single-engine plane crashed in a wooded area of Lafayette County on Monday night.

According to the Arkansas State Police, the crash was reported around 9:30 p.m. Monday near Arkansas Highway 29, about two miles south of Bradley. Search crews located the wreckage around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday using an ASP helicopter. Troopers from Troop G Highway Patrol, Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office deputies, and other first responders reached the scene by approximately 5:15 a.m.

Authorities identified the deceased as Barry Boes, 54, of Ooltewah, Tennessee. He was the pilot and sole occupant of a 2021 Lancair Super Barracuda aircraft that had departed Austin, Texas, en route to Chattanooga, Tennessee. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Arkansas State Police have turned the investigation over to the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board. Both agencies will lead efforts to determine the cause of the crash.

The body has been transported to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for autopsy and further examination to determine the manner and cause of death.
