TULSA, Okla. – A still, frosty chill grips the early morning air as lawns sparkle under the first hard freeze of November. Breath fogs in the light wind, and car windshields glint with a thin layer of ice — a clear sign that fall’s first true cold snap has settled across the Southern Plains.

The National Weather Service in Tulsa has issued a Freeze Warning in effect until 8 a.m. Sunday, with sub-freezing lows near 31°F expected across much of northeast Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas. Residents are urged to cover tender plants and protect outdoor plumbing, as temperatures this low can end the growing season and cause minor damage to uninsulated pipes.

Once the morning freeze lifts, the region will quickly rebound under bright sunshine and a warming southerly breeze. By Sunday afternoon, highs will rise into the lower 60s, setting the stage for an unseasonably warm stretch through midweek. Monday and Tuesday will feature sunny skies and highs in the low to mid-70s, nearly 10–15 degrees above normal for early November.

Dry weather will dominate through Wednesday before light winds strengthen again by Thursday, hinting at a weak front late in the week. That front may bring slightly cooler air next weekend but little precipitation for now.

For gardeners and outdoor workers, this morning’s freeze marks a seasonal turning point — the official end of the growing season. After all, La Niña’s light grip may favor quick temperature swings, so don’t pack away the coats just yet; another early-season chill could return before Thanksgiving.
