Shreveport, LA – A dangerous combination of critical fire weather conditions and severe thunderstorms is expected to impact portions of East Texas, southeast Oklahoma, and western Arkansas on Friday. Strong winds, low humidity, and an increased risk of wildfires will be followed by an evening threat of damaging storms across Louisiana and southern Arkansas.
According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, gusty southwest winds of 15 to 20 mph, with occasional gusts up to 35 mph, will contribute to an elevated fire risk throughout the day. The dry conditions, coupled with low humidity, increase the chances of rapid fire spread. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning, secure tow chains, and refrain from tossing lit cigarettes to prevent accidental ignitions.
By late afternoon and into the evening, a developing storm system will bring the potential for severe thunderstorms, particularly across north-central and central Louisiana and south-central Arkansas. The primary threats include damaging wind gusts exceeding 60 mph, large hail, and the possibility of isolated tornadoes.
Saturday morning may bring another round of strong to severe thunderstorms before conditions improve. Cooler temperatures and calmer weather are expected by Sunday.
Residents in the affected regions should stay updated with official weather alerts and take necessary precautions to protect property and personal safety.
