In parts of central and western Arkansas, including areas near Little Rock and Fort Smith, homes with basements provide a significant advantage during the early phase when radiation levels are highest.
However, many homes across Arkansas are built on slabs without basements. In those cases, officials recommend moving to the most interior room possible—away from windows and exterior walls.
