Little Rock, Ark. – Heat index values as high as 109° will blanket much of Arkansas and Mississippi on Monday, prompting urgent warnings for residents to limit outdoor activity and stay hydrated. The National Weather Service has issued heat advisories across both states, warning of elevated risks for heat-related illness through Monday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock and Jackson, the advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. CDT Monday, covering central and southeastern Arkansas—including Little Rock, Conway, and Pine Bluff—and parts of Mississippi such as Greenville, Vicksburg, and Jackson.

In Arkansas, counties from Sharp to Drew—including Garland, Pulaski, and Jefferson—will be affected. Mississippi advisories include the Delta and western regions, with high heat indexes expected from Cleveland to Waterproof.

Residents are urged to avoid outdoor work during peak afternoon hours, wear lightweight clothing, and drink water frequently. Employers should follow OSHA guidelines, offering shaded breaks and monitoring for heat exhaustion symptoms such as dizziness, headache, or nausea.

This wave of extreme heat marks one of the summer’s most intense periods so far. Temperatures are expected to ease slightly by midweek, but more advisories could follow.
